Clothing and sustainability

The worldwide clothing industry is a huge consumer of water and a large generator of carbon emissions.  As we all work to protect the Earth’s environment, it’s important to realize that our habits of clothing consumption may need to change.  The population of the world today consumes approximately 80 billion items of clothing per year.  This is a four fold increase from just 20 years ago (The True Cost documentary).

Synthetic fabrics do not biodegrade and are a major source of microplastics in the ocean.  We can have a positive impact by buying less clothing, making sure it is of better quality, and choosing natural fibers over synthetics.

Hard Boiled Designs is working to become a zero waste studio.  We are not there yet, but are working to use responsibly sourced materials, recycling and using recyclable products, and passing on what is not needed to other makers.
